Aiming at contributing to the environment-friendly century and enhancing our competitiveness in the global market

On April 1, 1999, Hokkai Steel Works Co., Ltd. ( HSW or Shin-Hokkai Kogyo K.K.) newly started its operation as an affiliated company of Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC), which is one of the leading companies in the iron and steel industries in Japan as well as in the world.

We are very proud of our business that contributes to energy- and resources-conservation through steel-recycling. Scrap for our electric furnace is collected only in Hokkaido. In other words, we are conjuring products out of waste in the district. We hope that our business assists the society in constructing a further ecological mechanism in the 21st century.

In Hokkaido, Hokkai Kogyo K.K.(HKK), antecedents of HSW, had been ranked not only as a pioneer for new production technologies but also as a front-runner in quality assurance forapproximately 70 years since its foundation in 1936. (cf. "CHRONOLOGY")

From the reorganization, we are able to utilize new management resources of NSC Group in addition to the technical heritage of HKK.
We made an excellent take-off for the new century in cooperation with our labor union and our product-distributors.
We produce more than 200 thousand tons of steel products yearly with a 50-ton electric furnace.
We take a lot of pride in our efficient production result at over 2,200 ton/man-year as well as in our high quality rebars that have already established its status in the market.

In May 2001, with the above-mentioned competitiveness, HSW started to export its rebars and steel billets in the global market. Now we export more then 60,000 tons of rebars and steel billets annually.

In 2004, we celebrated the 5th anniversary of the re-organization. Thanks to great support by our distributors in the district and customers overseas, our management results for the first 5 years were much more successful than we had expected.

To commemorate the success as well as to upgrade our performance, we renewed our corporate LOGO, which represents our corporate image of recycling. At the same time on October 1,2004 we changed our English name to Shin-Hokkai Steel Co.,Ltd.
